1933 - Canet de Mar: The referendum on the building of the municipal market is the first vote in the whole State, where women participate legally after female suffrage having been passed in 1931.

1893 - Barcelona: Frederic Mompou, Catalan composer.
1958 - Barcelona: Xavier Sardà, journalist.
1943 - Madrid, Espanya: Carlos Arniches Barreda, Valencian comedy writer (born 1866).
1973 - Villarrubio, Espanya: Nino Bravo, Valencian singer.
1988 - Deià, Mallorca: Norman Yanikun, North American painter.
2001 - València: Josep Maria Simó Nogués, Valencian businessman and financer.
2008 - Barcelona, Barcelonès: Emili Giralt i Raventós, Catalan historian, president of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans.
In 2017, April 16th is Easter Sunday, which mainly a religious and family festival but there are also a number of sardana meetings throughout Catalonia.
