There are a surprising number of cheap Barcelona Ramblas hotels located on La Rambla, the city's most famous and celebrated street.
All the one and two star Ramblas hotels described here are
located between Plaça Catalunya and where Plaça Reial meets Carrer Nou
de la Rambla on La Rambla dels Caputxins, also known as La Rambla del
This really is the best section of La Rambla to be both because of its proximity to great places to visit and for safety reasons.
Further down closer to the port can be a bit rough, especially at night, but here in the middle and upper section of La Rambla you are close to the most authentic and visitor-friendly parts of the Barri Gòtic and El Raval.
The majority of these cheap Ramblas hotels used to be pensions or hostels but have been renovated and refurbished in recent years in order to offer decent reasonably-priced accommodation in a fantastic location.
The magnificent Hotel Lloret is an exception to this rule and it really does surprise me that this piece of Ramblas history only has 1 Star!
Rather than basing this selection of Cheap Ramblas Hotels on my own personal preferences, I've ordered them starting close to Plaça Catalunya on La Rambla de Canaletes and working down towards Plaça Reial and La Rambla del Centre.
La Rambla, 133, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona
Located at number 133 La Rambla on the top section known as La Rambla de Canaletes, you really can't get much closer to Plaça Catalunya than Barcelona City Ramblas.
It's a really nice little guest house, actually - the rooms are basic but clean and have tea and coffee making facilities and a sink.
Bathrooms are shared but you get free Wi-Fi, computer access and use of a communal kitchen with a drinks machine.
The major inconvenience is that it's on the fifth floor without a lift so it's only for the young and fit and is definitely why its amongst the cheap Barcelona Ramblas hotels.
Barcelona City Ramblas used to be known as Pensión Canaletas after this section of La Rambla, which is famous for its drinking fountain and the fact that FC Barcelona fans celebrate their victories there.
La Rambla, 125, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona
The legendary Hotel Lloret Ramblas is a few doors down at number 125 La Rambla overlooking the drinking fountain, La Font de Canaletes, where legend has it that if you drink the water you'll always return to Catalonia.
This cheap Barcelona Ramblas hotels' rooms are basic but have a work desk and a private bathroom and some rooms also have a private balcony.
However, it's worth staying at Hotel Lloret not only for its incredible location but also for the magnificent building, which forms part of the history of The Ramblas itself.
The hotel has been open since 1926 and is housed in a classic Barcelona turn of the century building - it must be a delight to wake up to breakfast in the beautiful lounge-dining room.
La Rambla, 100, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona
A little further down on the other side of La Rambla at number 100, you come to Hostal Boqueria.
This section is called La Rambla de Sant Josep and the official name of the famous Boqueria Market is actually El Mercat de Sant Josep.
Hostal Boqueria is less than 200 metres from Liceu Metro Station, which is on the Green L3 Metro Line, and offers simple, comfortable rooms with free Wi-Fi access available throughout the premises.
The Hostal Boquería’s entrance is simple but inside functional rooms feature air conditioning and cable TV, as well as heating and a private bathroom.
The Boquería serves a daily breakfast, has a 24-hour reception and guests can also make use of its luggage storage.
La Rambla, 96, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona
Hostal BCN Ramblas is another cheap Barcelona Ramblas hotel in a fantastic location at number 96 La Rambla just across the way from the main entrance to the magnificent Boquería Marketin the same building as the Erotic Museum.
This is the central section of La Rambla known as La Rambla de Sant Josep or La Rambla de les Flors because of its famous flower stalls.
I'm pretty sure Hostal BCN Ramblas used to be called Pensión Mendoza before it was renovated.
The old pension was pretty rough and ready but now the hotel is quite plush and definitely a bargain in comparison with other two star hotels.
This guest house offers free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour reception and the air-conditioned rooms at the BCN Ramblas feature cable TV and a private bathroom.
La Rambla, 79, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona
Just across La Rambla at number 79, right next door to La Boqueria, you'll find Hostal Las Flores.
Hostal Las Flores is in the same building as the legendary Egipte restaurant so you definitely won't have to go far to get an excellent meal.
Once again the location is absolutely fantastic, and the hotel is pretty decent too.
This is another of the cheap Barcelona Ramblas hotels that has undergone a recent renovation, in 2010 in this case, I think.
Hostal Las Flores offers air-conditioned rooms, with free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs.
Public parking is available near the Hostal Las Flores, but the great location means the city’s main tourist sites can be visited on foot.
La Rambla, 44, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona
With rooms that look out onto La Rambla and a reception on one of the streets that leads to the Plaça Reial, Hotel Fornos at La Rambla, 44 and Carrer Colom, 2, offers the best of both worlds.
Once again in the central section of La Rambla close to Liceu metro station, Hotel Fornos is perfect for sightseeing by day and ideally located for getting the best out of Barcelona nightlife.
Plaça Reial is a fantastic square full of bar terraces, restaurants and clubs and on the other side of La Rambla, Carrer Nou de la Rambla is home to Gaudí's magnificent Palau Güell and also the modernista London Bar, a Barcelona classic with live music.
Hotel Fornos is one of the best located cheap Barcelona Ramblas hotels.
La Rambla, 37, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona
Located just across the way at number 37 in a section known as La Rambla dels Caputxins, Hostal Benidorm is on the corner of Nou de la Rambla and 30 metres from the entrance to Plaça Reial so once again you're in a terrific spot.
The entrance at Hostal Benidorm doesn't look as welcoming as Hotel Fornos but both hotels offer free Wi-Fi, 24-hour reception and air-conditioned rooms with satellite TV.
However, the rooms spacious and bright, and have central heating and a private bathroom.
The truth is that all the hotels mentioned offer basic but comfortable accommodation at a very reasonable price.
