The Fòrum Gastronòmic is the pioneering gastronomy congress dedicated to the food industry, which bills itself as the Food Service Meeting Point, and in 2016 takes places at the Fira de Barcelona Montjuïc between October 23rd and 26th.
The congress has been going since 1999 and also is held in La Coruña in Galicia and in Girona at other times of the year so it has become something of an institution over the last 17 years.
This year Fòrum Gastronòmic has paired up with Hostelco, which is more oriented towards restaurant industry equipment rather than foodies, so the four days are expected to attract massive attendance from both professionals and the general public alike.
This year more than 400 brands will be exhibiting and there are plenty of networking events directed at food industry professionals.
As far as the general public are concerned, though, it will be the food tastings and the workshops given by celebrity chefs that attract the big crowds.
Some of the big names include Sergio and Xavier Torres, Nandu Jubany, Christian Escribà, Carme Ruscalleda and Jordi Cruz as well as numerous prize givings and special events.
Some of the workshops are free of charge but you can check out the timetable and buy tickets for the paid workshops by visiting the Official Fòrum Gastronòmic Barcelona website.
