Located on Via Laietana, the main street that divides the Barri Gòtic and Sant Pere, Santa Maria i La Ribera, Four-Star Grand Hotel Central, described by The Guardian as 'One of the five best European new hip hotels', actually has a long and interesting history.
Commissioned by the Catalanist politician and businessman Francesc Cambó in 1926, shortly before the completion of Via Laietana, the noble building that now houses Grand Hotel Central was designed by Adolf Fiorensa and inspired by the Chicago School and was one of the first houses to be built on the new avenue.
Now one of Cambó's grandsons, Pau Guardans, has converted the family home into the Grand Hotel Central.
The interior design of Grand Hotel Central created by Sandra Tarruella
and Isabel López provides a tranquil, minimalist yet comfortable
The light in the corridors creates a relaxing atmosphere in a city centre hotel and the large high-ceilinged rooms are spacious, modern and comfortable.
And if the heat of the city still weighs heavily, you can escape to the Wellness Suite where a refreshing massage will help you see things in another light.
The hotel's real attraction is the rooftop terrace and pool with
its spectacular views over Barcelona, where guests can sunbathe in hammocks,
listen to chill-out music or have a drink and a snack at the Sky Bar.
Also highly recommended is the hotel's City Bar & Restaurant, which offers a challenging choice of Mediterranean cuisine as well as salads, burgers.
