Located on one of the backstreets of the Barri Gòtic between Plaça de Sant Jaume and Plaça Reial, Harlem Jazz Club is the superlative venue for small combos of musicians playing a variety of musical styles.
Jazz tends to predominate but there's also plenty of Brazilian, blues, rock and flamenco fusion.
Basically, Harlem an unpretentious little club where local Barcelona musicians come to experiment, improvise and work on sets they might later offer at larger venues and this is precisely what makes it so great.
The atmosphere is intimate and there's a continual conversation between musicians and audience, many of whom tend to be musicians themselves.
Gigs start at 10.30 but the bar is a great place to hang out both before and after the show.
Given Harlem's strong jazz orientation, it tends to one of the venues of the Barcelona International Jazz Festival that is held between October and November every year.
