L'Assumpció de Maria or Ascension of Mary, which in Catalonia is also known as La Mare de Déu d'Agost or Mother of God of August, is centred on the belief in the Orthodox and Catholic churches that Jesus Christ's mother immediately rose to heaven after her days on earth.
August 15th is the Saints Day of La Mare de Déu d'agost also known as L'Assumpció or Ascension, which as it is summer, is an excuse for an enormous number of Festa Majors around Catalonia and the Catalan-speaking countries.
The most celebrated of these is La Festa Major of Gràcia, the popular neighbourhood located just outside Barcelona City Centre.
