1550 - Pollença, Mallorca: The Turkish privateer Dragut, with 1,500 men, occupy the town, but is beaten by the Pollencins, led by Joan Mas.

1938 - Bombing of Granollers during the Spanish Civil War by the Aviació legionària de la Regia Aeronautica.

2001 - Teresa Pàmies receives the XXXIII Premi d'Honor de les Lletres Catalanes.


1873 - Barcelona: Josep Falp i Plana, Catalan doctor, writer and founder of the Lliga Vegetariana de Catalunya (died 1913).

1890 - Sabadell: Francesc Casañas i Riera, Catalan rope manufacturer and photographer.

1913 - Sabadell: Joan Clavell i Corominas, teacher.

1925 - Cases Altes, Racó d'Ademús: Francesc Candel Tortajada, Valencian writer and journalist (died 2007).

1937 - Argelaguer, la Garrotxa: Josep Pujiula i Vila, Tarzan of Argelaguer, Catalan lathe operator (died 2016).

1951 - Sedaví, Horta Sud: Ferran Torrent, Valencian writer and journalist.


1151 - Girona: Guillem Umbert de Basella, Baron of Montseny.

1410 - Barcelona: Martí the Humane, King of Aragon, the last of the House of Barcelona.

1968 - Benicalap, València: Regino Más i Marí, innovative Valencian faller artista (born 1899).

1962 - Barcelona: Eduard Toldrà i Soler, Catalan composer (born 1895).
