Events

1164 - Zaragoza:  Ramon, son of Ramon Berenguer IV, Count of de Barcelona, Girona, Osona, and Cerdanya (1131-1162), is sworn in as King of Aragon in Zaragoza in a assembly before Aragonese nobles with the name Alfons el Cast. The Principality of Catalonia and the Kingdom of Aragon are now united as the Crown of Aragon.

    
1500 - Granada: Louis XII of France and Fernando the Catholic sign the Treaty of Granada to divide up the Kingdom of Naples.
    
2004 - Barcelona: the Parliament of Catalonia passes a proposition that demands "respect" from the Spanish government on decisions from the sports federations, a few days before Fresno (California), who would be deciding whether to recognise the national Catalan hockey team.

1082 - Rodés (Avairon), Occitània: Ramon Berenguer III the Great, Count of de Barcelona, Girona, Osona, Besalú, Provença and Cerdanya (died 1131).
   
1844 - Barcelona: Josep Balari i Jovany, Catalan philologist, classicist, historian and stenographer (died 1904).
   
1892 - Sabadell, província de Barcelona: Joan Puig i Pujol, Catalan writer and politician.
   
1909 - Sabadell: Maria Teresa Duran i Nogués, Catalan writer and feminist activist.
   
1944 - Manises, Horta Oest: José Sancho, Valencian actor.


Deaths

1285 - Vilafranca del Penedès: Pere the Great, King of Aragon and Count of de Barcelona (born 1240).

    1824 - Barcelona: Fèlix Amat de Palou i Pont, Catalan writer, philosopher, stenographer and Jansenist theologian of the Enlightenment (74 years).
   
1882 - Madrid: Estanislau Figueras i de Moragas, first President of the First Spanish Republic and President of the Council of Ministers (62 years).
   
1959 - Castelló de la Plana, Plana Alta: Gaetà Huguet i Segarra, Valencian businessman, politician and patron (77 years).
   
1956 - Barcelona: Ignasi Domènech i Puigcercós, Catalan chef and gastronomer.
   
1971 - València: Nicolau-Primitiu Gómez i Serrano, Valencian historian and businessman (94 years).
   
2000 - Sagunt, Camp de Morvedre: Jaume Bru i Vidal, Valencian poet and historian (79 years).
   
2003 - Vic, Osona: Miquel Martí i Pol, Catalan poet (74 years).
   
2004 - València: Xavier Casp, Valencian poet and political activist (89 years).
