1809 - The city of Girona resists a ferocious attack by the French troops that have it under siege during the Peninsular War. The event is known as "The Great Day of Girona".
1866 - Barcelona: La pubilla del Vallès, a comedy by Josep Maria Arnau i Pascual, opens at the Teatre Romea.
2010 - The start of canal 3XL, a Televisió de Catalunya channel that substitutes Canal 300 and is a continuation of the young people's channel 3xl.cat.
1732 - Barcelona: Josep Martí, abbot of Bellpuig de les Avellanes and historian.
1772 - València: Vicent López i Portaña, Valencian neoclassical painter, court painter to the Borbón monarchy, from Carles IV to Isabel II (died 1850).
1946 - Josep Montràs i Rovira, mayor of Moià (1983 -2011).
1933 - Sabadell: Maria Teresa Duran i Nogués, Catalan writer and feminist activist.
1951 - Barcelona: Josep Ribelles Comín, Valencian librarian, journalist and cultural activist (born 1872).
1973 - Santiago de Chile (Chile): Joan Alsina i Hurtós, Catalan priest, murdered in Chile by the Pinochet regime.
