1354 - Sardenya: Pere III the Cerimonious begins his expedition against the island.

1932 - The Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia, known as the Estatut de Núria, is passed.

1938 - The president of the Republic, Doctor Negrín announces the retreat of the International Brigades to the League of Nations, which condemns the military coup, but doesn't answer the calls for help.

2003 - Barcelona: The Castellers of Barcelona build a 5 de 8 for the first time in their history.

2004 - el Ripollès: an eathquake, which registers 4.2 on the Richter scale, has its epicentre 8 km south-west Ripoll.

1859 - Vilanova i la Geltrú (el Garraf): Francesc Macià, president of Generalitat of Catalonia.

1876 - Barcelona: Juli González i Pellicer, Catalan painter and sculptor (died 1942).

1919 - Sabadell (Vallès Occidental): Teresa Rebull, Catalan singer-songwriter and political activist (died 2015).

1936 - Igualada (Anoia): Teresa Gimpera, Catalan actress and model.

1937 - Barcelona: Empar Baró i San Martín, Catalan theatre, cinema and television actress.

1941 - Barcelona: Núria Feliu, Catalan singer and actress.

1962 - Barcelona: Carles Sabater, lead singer of Catalan rock group Sau and actor.


Deaths

1542 - Perpignan: Joan Boscà i Almogàver, Catalan poet and translator, especially of Spanish renaissance literature.
