1859 - Port of Barcelona: Ictíneo I the first manned submarine, invented by Narcís Monturiol, makes its first official voyage.

1938 - After having participated in a number of battles in the Spanish Civil War, the International Brigades are withdrawn after pressure from the Non-Intervention Committee.

2001 - Barcelona: The Castellers de Barcelona build a 3 de 9 amb folre for the first time in their history.

2011 - Tarragona: La Colla Jove Xiquets de Tarragona build a 5 de 9 amb folre, their first gamma extra, for the first time in their history.

1893 - Barcelona: Carles Riba i Bracons, Catalan writer and humanist.

1930 - Premià de Dalt (Maresme): Albert Manent i Segimon, Catalan writer.

1949 - Alacant: Juan Manuel Asensi Ripoll, known as Asensi, Valencian footballer who played for FC Barcelona.

1954 - Saidí (Baix Cinca): Mercè Ibarz Ibarz, Catalan writer.


Deaths

1461 - Barcelona: Carles de Viana probably poisoned by his step-mother, Joana Enríquez.

1992 - In a plane, on her way to Madrid: Mary Santpere, Catalan actress, vedette and comedienne

2012 - Manaslu, Nepal: Martí Gasull i Roig, Catalan language activist (born 1969).

2014 - Barcelona: Teresa Rovira i Comas, Catalan librarian, daughter of Antoni Rovira i Virgili.
