These 4 Star Eixample Dreta Hotels are all located to the right of Passeig de Gràcia as you walk up the hill from Plaça de Catalunya.
The neighbourhood known as the Dreta de l'Eixample also includes Passeig
de Gràcia and Rambla de Catalunya but as these two emblematic streets
are tourist attractions in their own right and also offer a great choice
of hotels I have created pages for them separately.
The hotels are very approximately organised in terms of their distance from Plaça de Catalunya and the city centre so we begin at Gran Via, Carrer Casp and Carrer Diputació.
This area is obviously very convenient for visiting The Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter but my favourite area is further up the hill close to the Mercat de la Concepció.
So if you want the full on Barcelona Modernista experience with a bit of local colour, I strongly recommend either 987 Barcelona Hotel on Carrer Mallorca or Catalonia Berna on the corner of Roger de Llúria and Consell de Cent.
Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 644, L'Eixample, 08007 Barcelona
Located at 644 Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, between Passeig de Gràcia and Pau Claris, Catalonia Passeig de Gràcia is just a short walk from the Passeig de Gràcia itself and so perfectly situated for the shopping along this magnificent boulevard as well visiting Gaudí's famous Casa Batlló on the Manzana de la Discordia or La Pedrera a little further up.
You are also very close to the Plaça de Catalunya, The Ramblas, the Cathedral and the rest of the Barri Gòtic.
The hotel itself is housed in a recently renovated building dating from 1928 and the 74 rooms feature flat-screen satellite TV, a minibar and safe.
There is also a small outdoor pool, free gym and the hotel also offers onsite parking, which is a big plus in the centre of Barcelona.
Les Delícies restaurant offers a wide menu of Mediterranean and Catalan food with some avantgarde details and the cocktail bar also offers an excellent choice of tapas.
Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 656, L'Eixample, 08010 Barcelona
Just a few metres further down Gran Via, the Acta Atrium Palace offers all the same advantages in terms of location with Passeig de Gràcia and the Gothic Quarter just a short walk away.
This elegant modern hotel opened in 2003 and is set in a traditional Barcelona building, dating from 1888.
The 71 rooms, decorated in quite a classic style, are chic and comfortable and are equipped with air conditioning and satellite TV whilst the top-floor suites feature a separate living room, two TVs, and a private terrace with deck chairs, a temperature-controlled hot tub, and great views.
There is an indoor swimming pool and spa with adjoining jacuzzi and sauna and massages are also offered.
The Atrium restaurant, where breakfast is also served, offers Mediterranean cuisine and a nice touch are the temporary art exhibitions held in the restaurant and reception areas.
There is also a well-equipped business centre and public parking is available nearby.
Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 678, L'Eixample, 08010 Barcelona
Opened in 2010, Grupotel Gran Via 678 is set in a modern building a little further down Gran Via and the emphasis is on modern facilities and stylish decoration.
The 98 rooms are all equipped with individually air conditioning programs, comfortable beds, desk, minibar, safety deposit box, satellite TV with international channels, internet access, Wi-Fi connection and multimedia connectivity.
Grupotel Gran Via 678 restaurant serves Mediterranean and international cuisine and guests can enjoy meals on the terrace.
This far down Gran Via you are probably slightly closer to Urquinaona metro station than Catalunya.
The Barri Gòtic is still close but you will probably also want to explore the Arc de Triomf and the Parc de la Ciutadel.la from this location.
Gran Vía de Les Corts Catalanes, 647, L'Eixample, 08010 Barcelona
I have to say I really like the look of the Silken Gran Hotel Havana because I often walk past it on my way from Urquinaona metro station to where I live on the corner of Bruc and Mallorca and it is always beautifully lit.
It is located in Casa Fradera, a historic building dating from 1882 almost directly opposite Grupotel Gran Via on the corner of Gran Via and Carrer Bruc so once again the situation is excellent with easy access to the Blue Line from Girona Metro station as well.
The rooms at Gran Hotel Havana are tastefully decorated in a classic style in keeping with the building and feature a marble bathroom, a flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi.
The Grand Place restaurant serves traditional cuisine, while La Cúpula bar hosts live music every day and in summer guests can enjoy light meals on the hotel’s rooftop bar-terrace.
My only possible criticism of all the hotels located on Gran Via is that this is one of the main roads through Barcelona and if your room is at the front, it can be quite noisy with the windows open.
Casp, 1-13, L'Eixample, 08010 Barcelona
If you have a front facing room at Husa Barcelona, you can actually see Plaça de Catalunya from the balcony so the hotel's location is about as central as it gets but being so close to the start of Passeig de Gràcia this is definitely the Dreta de l'Eixample.
Husa Barcelona is housed in a modern building and offers exterior-facing air-conditioned rooms with a private balcony and flat-screen satellite TV, wooden floors, a work desk, minibar and safe.
A buffet breakfast is served at the Husa Hotel Barcelona, and it is also possible to have breakfast in your room but there is no on-site restaurant.
However, given the central location finding an excellent restaurant should be no problem.
The Husa is reasonably priced and offers a no frills 4 star service and the location is definitely the main point in its favour.
Diputació, 262-264, L'Eixample, 08007 Barcelona
The HCC St. Moritz is set in a listed 19th-century building dating from 1883 right at the beginning of the Modernista period and is located on Carrer Diputació just a few metres off the bottom section of Passeig de Gràcia so the situation couldn't be better.
I particularly like the entrance at the Hotel HCC St. Moritz as it maintains the original central staircase and marble reception.
All 91 rooms are equipped with satellite LCD TV, free Canal+, air conditioning and heating, minibar, slippers, safe, direct-dial telephone, desk, free WiFi connection and complete bathroom with bathtub, hairdryer, magnifying mirror, auxiliary telephone and a carefully-selected range of toiletries.
A varied buffet breakfast is served daily, and you can enjoy a range of Mediterranean dishes for dinner in the St Gallen Restaurant, where menus use fresh, seasonal produce.
There is also a terrace and a lounge bar, as well as a business centre so HCC St. Moritz looks a pretty good choice to me.
Roger de Lluria, 28, L'Eixample, 08010 Barcelona
Located right at the bottom of Carrer Roger de Llúria just two streets away from Passeig de Gràcia almost on the corner with Carrer Casp, Hotel Roger de Llúria is even closer to Plaça de Catalunya than the hotels on Gran Via but far enough away to get the Eixample atmosphere.
Set in a a typical early 20th century building, the Roger de Llúria is a boutique hotel with 48 rooms ranging from standard doubles, rooms for 3 or 4 people to luxurious suites.
All rooms feature rooms air-conditioning, soundproofing, free Wi-Fi, 42-inch LCD screen, radio, mini-bar, hair-dryer, room service, ironing service and safe and many have a street view or a small terrace overlooking the inner courtyard.
Boasting two large meeting rooms holding 180 and 100 people respectively, hotel is particularly well-equipped for conferences and events.
There is no restaurant but the Roger de Llúria offers a full buffet breakfast and there is a very pleasant lounge bar.
Roger De Lluria, 21 (Gran Via, 662), L'Eixample, 08037 Barcelona
Almost directly opposite Hotel Roger de Llúria near Gran Via, the Petit Palace Barcelona is also housed in a traditional Barcelona building but like all hotels run by the High Tech Hotels chain offers an extremely modern experience once inside.
The 50 air-conditioned rooms at the Petit Palace Barcelona have carpeted floors and modern décor and come with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV and a laptop as well as a music system, DVD player and a private bathroom with hydromassage shower.
The hotel has a gym and a sauna plus a café and a free internet corner, and reception is open 24 hours a day.
Roger de Llúria, 60, L'Eixample, 08009 Barcelona
A good way further up Roger de Llúria between Consell de Cent and Aragó, the Catalonia Eixample 1864 is housed in one of the most iconic buildings of this part of the Dreta de l'Eixample known as the Quadrat d'Or or Golden Square because of the concentration of fine Modernista buildings.
The building itself with its beautiful painted facade is exquisite and is a designated historical monument.
The fact that the hotel is run by the Catalonia chain is a guarantee of comfort and the en suite rooms feature sleek wooden floors and furniture, air conditioning and satellite TV.
The hotel's Les Finestres de Llúria restaurant has an excellent reputation and serves traditional Catalan food with a creative twist whilst the Sala Minerva serves a buffet breakfast with show cooking.
Both the location and the building make the Catalonia Berna an excellent choice for anyone wishing to stay in the heart of the Modernista Eixample.
Mallorca, 288, L'Eixample, 08037 Barcelona
Located on Carrer Mallorca on the route from Passeig de Gràcia to the Sagrada Familia, 987 Barcelona Hotel really is in the heart of the Modernista Quadrat d'Or.
Domènech i Montaner's Casa Thomas is directly opposite, Puig i Cadafalch's Casa de les Punxes is just round the corner and the neighbourhood is peppered with Modernista pharmacies, bakeries and grocery stores.
Once inside 987, which is also a listed building, the atmosphere changes from modernista to ultra-modern yet functional interiors with a touch of art.
The 88 air-conditioned rooms have soundproofing, satellite TV and a desk as well as free Wi-Fi and stylish rooms with flat-screen TVs.
Breakfast is served in the 987’s extremely chic dining room and guests can enjoy a cocktail in the lounge bar.
The surrounding area is living local neighbourhood centred on the Mercat de la Concepció and has lots of pleasant bars and reasonably priced restaurants.
Verdaguer metro station is just round the corner so all in all this a pretty excellent place to stay.
Bailén, 4-6, L'Eixample, 08010 Barcelona
Closer to Passeig de Sant Joan and the Arc de Triomf than Passeig de Gràcia and the Gaudí buildings, NH Podium offers a much quieter Eixample experience although the main sights are still only a short walk away.
The hotel is once again set in a traditional 19th century building and this area was actually one of the first parts of the Eixample to be developed.
It has free Wi-Fi, a sauna, gym and roof terrace with swimming pool and city views, which is a definite plus throughout the summer months.
Each of the 145 bedrooms at the hotel comes with a Barcelona city guidebook and they are spacious and air conditioned and have a choice of pillows, a minibar and satellite TV.
NH Podium’s excellent Corella Restaurant restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine and there is also a lounge bar and a buffet breakfast is available in the mornings.
