A Passion for Barcelona
by David Goodall
We saw this outside the maritime museum ... I didn't know the inventor of the submarine was a Catalan!
Having spent three hours with Simon on his Walking Tour of the Ramblas, my wife, Jane and I were impressed with his knowledge of Catalan history and culture plus his intimate detailed account of Barcelona city. Simon has a real passion for Barcelona. To know the history of buildings and the essential dates must have come from extensive research.
Our walk started at the historic Placça de Catalunya and finished at the Statue tribute to Christopher Columbus and Simon informs his visitors of the history of major buildings, along with their current use. There are many side streets and Plaças full of their own stories. Whilst learning lots from Simon’s detailed knowledge, he also gave time for our own questions.
It is also worth noting that whilst the architecture of Antoni Gaudi is world renowned, Simon will also introduce you to the work of other excellent architects.
We tasted the waters of Canaletes which by tradition and history means that we will return to Barcelona! We certainly intend to and experience the culture and lifestyle of this remarkable city and the region of Catalonia. I recommend that you take Simon Harris’s Three Hour Walk of the Ramblas, I think it will inspire you to return to Barcelona too.
