Antonio Baños Boncompain

Former President of the CUP Parliamentary Group

Antonio Baños Boncompain was born in District of Nou Barris, Barcelona in 1967 and is a Catalan journalist, writer, musician, social activist and now politician.

He was a member of the punk group Los Carradine, founded in 1989, and has spent most of his professional career as a jobbing journalist. He is a member of the Spanish-speaking pro-independence group Súmate and has published various books on post-capitalist economics.

Following the elections to the Parliament of Catalonia on September 27th 2015, in which he headed the list for the pro-independence Candidatura d'Unitat Popular (CUP), Baños lead the parliamentary group and was President of the CUP Parliamentary Group in the Catalan Parliament.

However, following the CUP's refusal to vote in favour of the investiture of Artur Mas at the beginning of January 2016, Baños resigned his seat and left Parliament.

Antonio Baños was expected to be a key figure during the XI Legislature but his exit from politics means that although you will find links to biographical information, opinion articles and interviews and speeches relating to Antonio Baños, this page is unlikely to grow in the near future.
