1711 - Barcelona: Carles III, Count of Barcelona, on the death of his brother Josef I, immediately left for Austria where he would be crowned Holy Roman Emperor and would leave Catalonia to fight the War of the Spanish Succession alone.

1931 - Catalunya: Under pressure from the Spanish Government, the Catalan Republic is converted into the Generalitat of Catalonia, of which Francesc Macià would become president.

1979 - Barcelona: Ona lliure, the country's free radio, begins broadcasting.


1873 - Sabadell: Antoni Estruch i Bros, Catalan historical painter, famous for having painted Corpus de Sang and L'Onze de Setembre.


1723 - València: Tomàs Vicent Tosca i Mascó, Valencian intellectual, mathematician, cartographer and theologian, as well as creating the Novatores movement.

1946 - València: Gustau Pascual Falcó, Valencian musician and composer, author of the pasodoble «Paquito el Chocolatero» (born 1909).
