You will find excellent choice of Barcelona Airport Hotels all within a 5 kilometre radius of Barcelona El Prat Airport.
Barcelona Airport Accommodation is ideal for overnight stays, particularly if you have an early plane to catch, and also for visiting the nearby Business Centres in Viladecans, Sant Boi and Cornellà.
Most of these El Prat Airport Hotels provide a shuttle service to and from Terminals 1 and 2 at Barcelona Airport.
Many hotels are also ideal for fans coming to watch RCD Espanyol as the El Prat-Cornellà Stadium is extremely close to Barcelona Airport.
However, please be aware that the area around the airport isn't very exciting or attractive - particularly the hotels on or close to an industrial estate called the Zona Franca, which is located between the airport and Barcelona City Centre.
In my opinion, there are only two Barcelona Airport Hotels in the true sense of the word - Air Rooms and Tryp Aeropuerto - the rest are convenient both for the airport and the business centres south of Barcelona.
However, if you are organising a conference or a business event, you might be better off looking at Hotels in Castelldefels, which is only 10 minutes further away from the airport but also has a beach so the attendees are likely to be much more impressed.
Aeropuerto de Barcelona, Terminal I, 08820 El Prat de Llobregat
The Air Rooms are actually part of the Business Centre inside Barcelona Airport’s T1 and are located very close to the Barcelona-Madrid shuttle terminal, so are ideal for the business person who needs rest between flights but also needs access to work facilities.
In fact, Air Rooms are really oriented to business executives whose company has organised meetings at the on-site office spaces and meeting rooms and wishes to make a brief stopover.
I have to say that the rooms look extremely comfortable if a little impersonal and there is also a fitness centre with modern cardiovascular equipment so high-powered executives can stay fit.
Air Rooms offer excellent 4 Star accommodation with rather high prices, in my opinion, but as the company will probably be paying, I doubt whether this will worry guests too much.
Although, the centre of Barcelona can be reached in less than 30 minutes by train, bus or taxi, the main reason for staying at Barcelona Air Rooms is for between flight rest or to attend meetings so getting into the city centre appears to be of minor importance.
Parc de Negocis Mas Blau II, Plaça del Pla de l´Estany, 1-2., 08820 El Prat de Llobregat
Tryp Barcelona Aeropuerto Hotel is the only other establishment that can be considered a Barcelona Airport Hotel in the true sense of the word as it is definitely oriented towards overnight or short stays between flights.
The Tryp Aeropuerto is less than 2 km from the airport's T1, and offers a free 24-hour shuttle bus between the hotel and the terminals.
In fact, we once stayed there when our flight was cancelled due to inclement weather and, whilst bearing in mind that once again it's a rather impersonal airport hotel in the middle of nowhere, we were very satisfied with the room and the service.
The rooms were comfortable enough with international TV and a well-equipped bathroom as well as a work desk and free internet access.
Apparently, the hotel has a gym but we made use of the pleasant lobby bar, which opened late as many of us were unexpectedly stuck at the airport.
We were also able to have something to eat at the snack bar and the buffet breakfast served the following morning was more than adequate given the circumstances.
All in all, an excellent choice for an overnight stay between flights.
Avenida Remolar, 46, 08820 El Prat de Llobregat
If you need to be close to the airport for more than a night, I'd recommend Ciutat del Prat Airport Hotel, which is about 3 km away and located in the small town of El Prat de Llobregat.
Like most of the airport hotels it offers a free shuttle service to and from the terminal buildings and as it is located in the town of El Prat de Llobregat so you will find bars, restaurants and shops are within walking distance, which makes for a slightly more pleasant stay in my opinion.
Ciutat del Prat is still very oriented towards the business traveller and offers 130 rooms with meeting and conference facilities as well a sauna, gym, indoor pool and rooms with free Wi-Fi and satellite TV.
Furthermore, El Prat de Llobregat Train Station is just 10 minutes’ walk from the hotel, connecting you with central Barcelona in under 20 minutes.
By the way, the free shuttle service from and to the airport runs from 4:45am to 1:45 am and your journey back to the airport has to be booked 1 day in advance.
Carrer Alberedes, 16, 08830 Sant Boi del Llobregat
About 4.5 km away from Barcelona Airport in the nearby town of Sant Boi de Llobregat, the Frontair Congress Aeropuerto looks like another good choice for business executives in need of conference facilities.
The Frontair Congress is set in the publicity euphemistically refers to as the business area of Sant Boi de Llobregat so nearby by facilities, such as restaurants and bars are not as good as at Ciutat del Prat.
is good access to Barcelona city centre by car or public transport and the hotel offers a free airport shuttle every 30 minutes, 24 hours a day as well as a free shuttle to and from Barcelona City Centre 4 times a day.
With 2000m2 of meeting space and a further 2000m2 of leisure facilities comprising the SpaGym Natural and the large garden terrace and pool area, the Frontair Congress is extremely well-equipped for business events.
It also has its own spa centre and gym and the air-conditioned rooms feature bright, attractive décor and all have LCD TVs and free Wi-Fi and considering the very reasonable price looks like a very good choice to me.
Santa Creu de Calafell, 101, 08830 Sant Boi del Llobregat
Located once again in the rather faceless business park between Sant Boi de Llobregat and Viladecans, NH Sant Boi is just 10 minutes’ drive from Barcelona Airport but the hotel's publicity makes no mention of a shuttle service.
NH Sant Boi offers 116 Standard Rooms and 8 Superior Rooms and all are comfortable and elegant and internet access, satellite television, a safe, and other modern conveniences.
Furthermore, guests enjoy free access to the hot tub, sauna and gym, and free Wi-Fi in reception.
The hotel does not offer extensive conference facilities but Barcelona's Fira II trade fair site can be reached in about 10 minutes by car.
NH Sant Boi also offers easy access to the C-32 motorway and a bus stop outside the hotel makes it easy to get to central Barcelona.
Onsite parking is available on request, and the hotel can also arrange car hire.
The Nhube Restaurant serves a mixture of traditional and modern dishes and an Antiox buffet breakfast is available every morning.
NH Sant Boi looks very good and furthermore, the price of a room is extremely reasonable.
However, unless you have meetings at one of the companies located on the Viladecans Business Park, I can't reallt see the advantages of staying at NH Sant Boi.
Carrer K, s/n (Entrada principal Mercabarna), Sants-Montjuïc, 08040 Barcelona
Located in the Zona Franca Industrial District on the outskirts of Barcelona, Best Western Alfa Aeropuerto is under 10 minutes’ drive from El Prat Airport and about the same from the Barcelona Fira Trade Fair.
It's actually right next to the Mercabarna wholesale market but unless you are there specifically for business reasons, I personally can't see the point of staying there - it's certainly not a good base for a Barcelona city break.
Having said that it looks very pleasant and features an indoor pool, free airport shuttle service and free Wi-Fi.
In fact, we once stopped there when driving around the area to enquire about lunch and the foyer seemed to be full of holidaymakers rather than business people.
Unfortunately, the fact that there is reasonably priced on-site parking is available and a bus stop right outside the hotel, does not make up for having to make a 30-minute bus ride to get to The Ramblas and Barcelona City Centre.
Only recommended if you are on a business errand in the Zona Franca I'm afraid.
Carrer Rafael Casanova, 37, 08840 Viladecáns
Definitely a place to stop for a night on your way to somewhere else, the family-run Airport Barcelona Apartments is located in Viladecans, just 4 km from Barcelona El Prat Airport.
It offers comfortable rooms and spacious apartments, a free Wi-Fi zone and a sun terrace.
It is reasonably close to the town so, unlike some of the other airport hotels mentioned on this page, you don't feel like you are in no man's land and there are are numerous bars, restaurants and shops within 2 minutes’ walk and the Vilamarina Shopping Centre is 10 minutes’ walk away.
Airport Barcelona Apartments also offers laundry facilites, which is perfect if you flying through Barcelona on your way back from holiday and want to get home with clean clothes.
Private parking is available for a fee and the beaches of Castelldefels and Gava are 10 minutes’ drive away whilst Central Barcelona is 20 minutes’ drive away.
Viladecans Train Station is just 450 metres down the road so you can easily get to Barcelona or the beach during your short stay.
Avinguda Onze de Setembre, 156, 08820 El Prat de Llobregat
Located on the outskirts of El Prat de Llobregat, less than 15 minutes’ drive from Barcelona Airport and very close to the Llobregat River, El Blauet is a small family-run 1 Star hotel that looks very pleasant.
Hotel Blauet offers functional air-conditioned rooms with private bathrooms that include a flat-screen TV and a work desk and free Wi-Fi is available in the café and on the terrace.
It's reasonably convenient for the airport and airport buses leave from a stop located just 5 minutes' walk away.
Public street parking is available near the hotel and Europa Fira Conference Centre and Gran Vía 2 shopping centre can both be reached in about 10 minutes by car whilst the centre of Barcelona is less than 30 minutes’ drive away.
Something I haven't mentioned so far is the proximity of the Llobregat Delta, which despite being in the shadow of the airport, is surprisingly pleasant and a great place for bird watching and wildlife.
One of my more offbeat predictions is that I expect to see El Prat beach going up in the world in the next few years so perhaps now might be a time to pay a visit before the hordes arrive.
