Located in the traditional theatre area at Avinguda del Paral.lel 62 on the border between El Raval and Poble Sec, BARTS or Barcelona Arts on Stage occupies the site that has been best known throughout Barcelona's theatre history as the Gran Teatro Español.
In fact the theatre has had many names since first opening in 1892 and more recently it was the home of the discoteque Studio 54.
Since 2006, the space has been owned by the Ajuntament de Barcelona and first run by the Societat General d'Autors i Editors (SGAE) as a centre for theatre, musical performances, workshops and cultural activity in general.
Since 2012, the space has been run by The Project and with a capacity for 900 spectators seated or 1,500 if standing room is included is one of the best-equipped Theatres in Barcelona.
BARTS also has a club that functions as a Barcelona Music Venue and both venues always have a very full programme of a wide range of performing arts.
It's also worth noting that The Project are also the main organiser of the Barcelona Jazz Festival so BARTS tends to to get the cream of international jazz talent ever year between October and December.
