Club Capitol

Performing Arts in the Esquerra de l'Eixample

Located on The Ramblas very close to Plaça de Catalunya, Club Capitol originally opened as a cinema in 1926 and since 1989 has operated as a theatre.

Since opening as a theatre, the Capitol has put on all kinds of shows but its main successes have been comedies.

In fact, the theatre's first production was La Cubana's highly successful Comeme el coco, negro and the Capitol became the theatre of choice for legendary stand up comedian Pepe Rubianes and one of the two theatres is name after Rubianes, who died in 2009.

The theatre has had a number of owners and currently belongs to Grup Balaña, who run a number of theatres and cinemas in Barcelona.

The Capitol has two theatres, Sala Pepe Rubianes, with a capacity for 523 spectators, and Club Capitol 2, which seats 253.
