Located on Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes between Passeig de Gràcia and Rambla de Catalunya in the heart of the Eixample District, the Teatre Coliseum Barcelona is a former cinema, which has operated as a theatre since 2006.
The original cinema opened in 1923 and was housed in a beautiful building designed by architect Francesc de Paula Nebot in a monumentalist style.
Given its size and location, the Coliseum was one of the most popular cinemas in Barcelona but due to a drop in audiences was converted into a theatre with a capacity for 1689 spectators.
Next door there is a small cinema called Club Coliseum while the main theatre generally programmes major shows, such as musicals, concerts and comedy, for the general public.
