1842 - Barcelona: In order to put down a popular revolt, the Spanish army, commanded by General Espartero, bombs the city from the Castle of Montjuïc.

- Barcelona: a group of students founds the Institució Catalana d'Història Natural, currently affiliated to the Institut d'Estudis Catalans.


1729 - Olot, la Garrotxa: Antoni Soler i Ramos, Catalan composer and organist (died 1783).
1895 - Barcelona: Conxita Supervia, Catalan mezzosoprano (died 1936).
1899 - Barcelona: Noel Clarasó i Serrat, Catalan writer.
1936 - Bonn, Alemanya: Max Cahner, publisher, politician and Catalan literature historian (died 2013).
1939 - València: Joan Francesc Mira, Valencian writer, anthropologist and sociologist.


1956 - Catalina Pocoví Mayol, Mallorcan commentator and farmer.
1971 - Madrid: Rafael Rivelles Guillem, Valencian actor (born 1898).
1996 - Barcelona: Joaquim Ventalló i Vergés, Catalan journalist, politician, translator, poet and publicist.
