1352 - Bòsfor: The Catalan fleet defeats the Genoese at the Battle of Bòsfor.

1976 - Sabadell: Massive family demonstration which the police attacks causing injuries, including children. The city is paralysed and the workers take control.

2006 - Barcelona: The first Mobile World 3GSM Congress is held in the city.

1894 - Castelló de la Plana: Àngel Sánchez Gozalbo, Valencian writer (died 1987).

1908 - Castelló de la Plana: Lluís Sales Boli, pintor, Valencian folklorist and writer (died 1981).

1973 - Miguel Poveda, flamenco singer.

Deaths

1828 - 12 de juliol, Barcelona: Francesc Salvà i Campillo, Catalan doctor, physicist and meteorologist.

1999 - Vilafranca del Penedès (l'Alt Penedès): Carles Sabater, Lead singer of Catalan rock group, Sau, and actor.

2009 - Sabadell: Antoni Farrés i Sabater, Catalan lawyer and politician, Mayor of Sabadell from 1979 to 1999.
