1352 - Bòsfor: The Catalan fleet defeats the Genoese at the Battle of Bòsfor.
1976 - Sabadell: Massive family demonstration against which the police charged and children were injured. The city was paralysed and the workers claimed they were running the city.
2006 - Barcelona: The world mobile 3GSM conference begins for the first time in the city.
1894 - Castelló de la Plana: Àngel Sánchez Gozalbo, Valencian writer (died 1987).
1908 - Castelló de la Plana: Lluís Sales Boli, Valencian painter, folklorist and writer (died 1981).
1973 - Miguel Poveda: Flamenco cantaor or singer.
1828 - Barcelona: Francesc Salvà i Campillo, Catalan doctor, physicist and meteorologist.
1999 - Vilafranca del Penedès (l'Alt Penedès): Carles Sabater, lead singer Sau and actor.
2009 - Sabadell: Antoni Farrés i Sabater, Catalan lawyer and politician, mayor of Sabadell from 1979 to 1999.
February 2nd is the Festival of La Candelera, 40 days after Christmas, which celebrates the presentation of Jesus in the temple and the purification of his mother, Mary, and is the reason for a number of winter festivals around Catalonia.
