1863 - Mataró: The Caixa d'Estalvis Laietana is founded.
1976 - Barcelona: Importants demonstrations throughout the city, put down by the armed police, under the slogan "Llibertat, Amnistia i Estatut d'Autonomia" (Freedom, Amnesty and Statute) answering a call from the Assemblea de Catalunya to the Parc de la Ciutadella. These demonstration had a week earlier on February 1st.
1885 - Manlleu, Osona: Joan Viladomat i Massanas, Catalan musician (died 1940).
1920 - Barcelona: Josep Maria Ballarín i Monset, priest and writer. Popularly known as "Mossèn Tronxo" (died 2016).
1922 - València: Manuel Oltra i Ferrer, teacher of coral and cobla music (died 2015).
1910 - Sabadell: Francesc Sallarès i Salt, Catalan Escolapian (born 1838).
2005 - Vinaròs (el Baix Maestrat): Alfred Giner i Sorolla, Valencian poet and pharmacologist (born 1919).
In 2018, Thursday February 8th is Dijous Gras or Fat Thursday, which marks the start of Carnival, known as Carnestoltes in Catalan.
