If you want to be spirited back a century to the time of Gaudí and his contemporaries, you should definitely pay a visit to the Fira Modernista de Barcelona, which takes place in the Barri de la Concepció in the Eixample in the first weekend of June.
The Fira Modernista is officially the Festa Major of the Dreta de l'Eixample and is held in the heart of the Quadrat d'Or, where you'll find the highest concentration of Modernista buildings in the world and the festival is a tribute to this extraordinary patrimony.
For three days the area between Carrers Girona, Bruc, Aragó and La Diagonal is cordoned off and we return to the turn of the 19th and 20th century with people dressing up in period costume.
This is one of Barcelona's most authentic summer festivals and is a fantastic weekend for all the family with great food, early 20th century fairgound rides, a vintage car exhibition and much more.
Even better, almost all events are free!
* This year the Fira Modernista will be on between Saturday June 1st and Sunday June 2nd.
