1479 - Fernando the Catholic accedes to the throne of Aragon.

1850 - Alcoi: Emili Sala i Francés, Valencian painter (died 1910).
1864 - Vic: Joan Collell i Cuatrecasas, Catalan priest (died 1921).
1896 - Felanitx: Joan Estelrich i Artigues, Mallorcan writer and politician.
1902 - Reus: Joan Garcia Oliver, anarchist member of the CNT and FAI and Minister of Justice in Largo Caballero's government in November 1936. He introduced equality legislation for men and women.
1952 - Barcelona: Joan Barril i Cuixart, Catalan writer and journalist (died 2014).
1479 - Barcelona: Joan the Faithless, King of the Crown of Aragon.
1934 - Sitges, Garraf: Miquel Utrillo, Catalan engineer, painter, interior designer, art critic and promoter (born 1862).
1963 - Barcelona: Joaquim Dualde i Gómez, Valencian lawyer and politician, Minister of Public Education and Fine Arts (1934-1935) during the Second Spanish Republic (87 years old).
1997 - Barcelona: Josep Trueta, Doctor Trueta, Catalan traumatologist (born 1897).
2014 - Montse Anfruns, Catalan actress, singer and poet specialising in audiovisual dubbing.
January 20th is the Saints' Day of Sant Sebastià was a Christian who was born in the Roman province of Narbonne around AD 256 and died in Rome around 288 and a great number of winter festivals are celebrated in his honour in Catalonia and the Catalan-speaking countries.
