1911 - Peníscola, Baix Maestrat: A bad storm hits the coast for four days, causing a great deal of damage and killing 37 seamen from the Peníscola fishing fleet.

1986 - Catalonia: a heavy snowstorm causes problems with the transport system and the electricity and telephone lines.

1994 - Barcelona: A fire destroys the Gran Teatre del Liceu.


1907 - Manresa, Província de Barcelona: Josep Maria Planes i Martí, Catalan journalist and playwright. He was one of the early promoters of investigative journalism in Catalonia (died 1936).

1956 - Barcelona: Artur Mas i Gavarró, 129th President de la Generalitat de Catalunya, Catalan economist and politician.


1907 - Barcelona: Maria del Pilar Maspons i Labrós, Maria de Bell-lloc, Catalan writer (born 1841).

1998 - Barcelona: Jaume Fuster i Guillemó, Catalan writer and translator (born 1945).

2012 - Lleó, Espanya: Fabià Estapé i Rodríguez, Catalan economist, politician and university professor (born 1923).
