1760 - Barcelona: Antigono by Josep Duran i Pejoán, the first opera by a Catalan author to play in Catalonia opens at the Teatre de la Santa Creu.

1982 - País Valencià: With its publication in the BOE, the Estatut d'Autonomia comes into force.

2003 - Catalonia: The Institut Català del Voluntariat creates

2010 - Catalonia: The mass demonstration "Som una nació. Nosaltres decidim" attracts 1.5 million people in Barcelona to demonstrate against the Constitutional Court against the Estatut. The majority of the flags and signs are in favour of independence.


1845 - Barcelona: Dolors Monserdà i Vidal, Catalan escriptora catalana (died 1919).

1913 - Santa Coloma de Farners (la Selva): Salvador Espriu, Catalan writer (died 1985).

1917 - Barcelona (el Barcelonès): Joan Capri, Catalan actor and humourist (died 2000).

1919 - Sabadell (el Vallès Occidental): Maty Mont, Catalan variety artist.

1933 - Gironella (Berguedà): Maur Esteva i Alsina, Catalan Cistercencian monk, abbot of the Monestary of Poblet (1970-1998) and abbot general of the Cistercencian Order (1995-2005).

1943 - Barcelona: Albert Boadella, Catalan actor, playwright and director.

1947 - Bellreguard (la Safor): Joan Pellicer, Valencian doctor and ethnobotanist (died 2007).


1099 - València: Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, known as El Cid, Castilian knight .

1603 - Barcelona: Joan Terès i Borrull, Viceroy of Catalonia.

2013 - València: Concha García Campoy, Catalan journalist.
