1936 - Barcelona: The Barcelona Olimpíada Popular is suspended due to the coup d'etat of July 18th.

1936 - Barcelona: Lluís Companys, President of the Generalitat, creates the Comitè Central de Milícies Antifeixistes.


1835 - Canyamelar, València: Bernat Ferrandis i Badenes, Valencian painter (died 1885).

1866 - Reus: Francesc Berenguer i Mestres, Catalan architect in the Modernista style.

1898 - Barcelona: Josep Sunyol i Garriga, president of FC Barcelona, board member of the Federació Catalana de Futbol, important Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya politician for whom he was deputy of the Cortes in Madrid in 1931, 1933 and 1936, president of RACC, sports lover, cultural patron, founder of the sports paper La Rambla, and Catalanist.


1971 - Xàtiva: Carlos Sarthou Carreres, Valencian judge and writer.

1974 - Barcelona: Miquel Brasó, historian and archeologist from Gràcia.

1984 - Malgrat de Mar, Maresme: Francesc Boix i Masramon, known as Xesco Boix, Catalan folk musician and singer, who specialised in children's songs.

1994 - Barcelona: Pere Calders, writer in Catalan.
