1462 - Chinon, Kingdom of France: Louis XI of France signs the Treaty of Baiona.

1808 - Martorell, Terrassa, Girona, Tortosa and Lleida rise up against the French in the Peninsular War.

1897 - Barcelona: The last public execution takes place.

1977 - Països Catalans: The Spanish General Elections of 1977 are the first free direct and secret elections with universal suffrage since the Second Republic. PSC is the most voted party in Catalonia, PSOE in País Valencià and UCD in the Balearic Islands.

2005 - Bishopric of Sant Feliu de Llobregat is created.

2005 - Bishopric of Bisbat de Terrassa is created.

1883 - Sabadell: Gabriel Clausellas i Aymerich, Catalan archiver.

1949 - València: María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, Spanish politician, vice-president of the government under the presidency of socialist Rodríguez Zapatero.

Deaths

1936 - Granollers: Francesc Baygual i Bas, Catalan textile manufacturer.

1976 - Palma, Mallorca: Miquel Llompart Roig, Mallorcan track cyclist.

2003 - Sabadell: Josep Torrella i Pineda, writer and historian.

2015 - Barcelona: Romà Vallès, Catalan painter and teacher (born 1923).
