1705 - Genoa, Italy: During the War of the Spanish Succession, Antoni de Peguera, for Catalonia, and Mitford Crowe, representing Queen Anne of England, sign the treaty by which the English give their support to the Catalans fighting in favour of Archduke Charles of Austria.
1931 - Vall de Núria, Queralbs, Ripollès: A group legislators, presided by Jaume Carner, start drawing up the Estatut de Catalunya.
1983 - The first broadcast of Catalunya Ràdio.
2002 - Catalonia: General strike against the economic policies of the Spanish government.
1895 - Palma, Mallorca: Emili Darder i Cànaves, Last Republicamn Mayor of Palma (died 1937).
1940 - Barcelona: Josep Maria Benet i Jornet, Catalan playwright and scriptwriter.
1904 - Barcelona: Valentí Almirall i Llozer, Catalan lawyer, journalist and politician, considered the father of modern Catalanism (63 years old).
1937 - Province of Madrid: Andreu Nin, leader of the Partit Obrer d'Unificació Marxista (POUM), probably assassinated by Soviet agents (45 years old).
1958 - París: Joan Estelrich i Artigues, Mallorcan writer and politician.
1963 - Madrid: Manuel Benedito Vives, Valencian painter, continued the work of the 19th century Valencian School (87 years old).
1974 - l'Alguer, Sardenya: Rafael Catardi i Arca, Sardinian writer.
