988 - (on this or another day in March) Principality of Catalonia: Borrell II doesn't renew the oath of loyalty to the King of France. In effect, the County of Barcelona becomes independent and begins to mint its own coins. The independence of the Principality of Catalonia was ratified in the Treaty of Corbeil in 1258.
1405 - After visiting the Anti-Pope Benedict XIII in Avignon, Martí the Humane, King of Aragon, arrives in Barcelona.
1885 - The Memorial de Greuges is handed to Alfons XII. The document consists of political and economic complaints regarding the way Catalonia is treated by Spain.
1923 - CNT leader Salvador Seguí i Rubinat is shot down on Carrer de la Cadena by gunmen of the Sindicat Lliure.
1452 - Sos, Regne d'Aragó: Ferran the Catholic, King of the Crown of Aragon.
1854 - Pollença, Mallorca: Miquel Costa i Llobera, Mallorcan poet.

1820 - Barcelona: Joan Antoni Desvalls, Catalan landowner and scientist.
1923 - Barcelona: Salvador Seguí, el Noi del Sucre, Catalan trades unionist, who was murdered (born 1886).
1977 - Sabadell (Vallès Occidental): Josep Rosell i Casablancas, writer and sports lover.
1987 - Castelló de la Plana, Plana Alta: Àngel Sánchez Gozalbo, Valencian writer (born 1894).
1995 - Barcelona: Ovidi Montllor, Valencian actor and singer (born 1942).
