1640 - Montiró, Principality of Catalonia: Felip IV's troops destroy the town.

1843 - Catalonia: A conspiracy involving General Prim begins in the Camp de Tarragona against the government of General Espartero.

1956 - Barcelona, Barcelonès: The publication of La Gramàtica Catalana by Pompeu Fabra edited by Joan Coromines, known as La Gramàtica "pòstuma".

2010 - Sabadell, Vallès Occidental: This is first time the Consulta sobre la independència de Catalunya is held in a town of more than 200,000 inhabitants.

2015 - Barcelona: One of the oldest bookshops in the city, La Hormiga de Oro, closes.


1920 - Barcelona: Antoni Maria Badia i Margarit, Catalan philologist and linguist.

1947 - Beniopa, la Safor: Josep Piera i Rubió, Valencian writer and translator.

1948 - Barcelona, Barcelonès: Salvador Puig i Antich, Catalan activist, executed by the Franco regime.

1951 - Sedaví, l'Horta Sud: Ferran Torrent i Llorca, Valencian writer and journalist.


1857 - Ceuta: Agustina d'Aragó, heroic defender of Saragossa against the French during the Peninsular War.

1959 - Barcelona : Frank Marshall King, Catalan pianist and composer.
