Located on Carrer de Lleida on the approach to Montjuïc, the Mercat de les Flors dance and arts space opened in 1983 in the Palau de l'Agricultura, built for the 1929 Barcelona Universal Exhibition.
Throughout most of its life the building had housed Barcelona's main flower market and is municipally owned by the Ajuntament de Barcelona and the Generalitat of Catalonia.
The programme mainly concentrates on dance, with an interesting array of festivals and visits by major dance companies and individual performers but the Mercat also a venue for music and associated arts, including flamenco.
