Montgat is a beach town with a population of around 11,500 in the comarca of El Maresme, located on the coast between Badalona in El Barcelonès and El Masnou, a few miles to the north-east of Barcelona.
The old town is situated on the Turó de Montgat, a small cliff facing the sea, has some very pleasant old buildings, although the rest of the municipality is dominated by modern residences as Montgat is now a rather exclusive dormitory town for Barcelona.
At the northern end of the municipality you find the small urban nucleus of Montsolis and the Montgat coastline comprises two fine beaches the aforementioned Platja de Montsolís and on the other side of the town centre, the Platja dels antics Banys Montgat.
By Road: Montgat is connected with Barcelona by the C-32 and B-20 motorways and the NII national road.
By Train: Montgat is on the RENFE Rodalies R1 line between L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and Maçanet-Massanes.
