1983 - Alicante: Les Corts passes the Llei d'Ús i Ensenyament del Valencià.
2004 - Zaragoza, Aragon: Jesús Moncada i Estruga becomes the first Catalan language writer to be awarded the Premio de las Letras Aragonesas.
1863 - Banyuls de la Marenda: François Bassères, North Catalan military doctor.
1922 - Sueca, Ribera Baixa: Joan Fuster i Ortells, Valencian essayist (died 1992).
2007 - Barcelona: Paco Candel, Valencian writer and journalist, author of Els Altres Catalans (born 1925).
2011 - Bellaterra: Montserrat Figueras. Catalan soprano, specialising in old music.
