879 - Ripoll (el Ripollès): Guifre el Pilós, the first hereditary Count of Barcelona, whose name translates as Wifred the Hairy, founds the Monastery of Ripoll in the town of Ripoll in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Incidentally, Ripoll is often known as the Cradle of Catalonia for this reason.

1860 - Barcelona: Joan Maragall i Gorina, Catalan writer and poet (died 1911).
1903 - Ciutadella de Menorca: Francesc de Borja Moll i Casasnovas, Menorcan linguist, philologist and publisher.
1908 - Barcelona: Mercè Rodoreda i Gurguí, probably the most influential writer in contemporary Catalan literature.
1965 - Ciutat de Mèxic: Amadeu Aragay i Daví, Catalan politician, businessman and trades unionist.
1995 - Andorra la Vella: Esteve Albert i Corp, Catalan poet, playwright, historiador i promotor cultural català.
2012 - Barcelona: Oriol Casassas i Simó, Catalan paediatrician.
