1792 - The first issue of the Diari de Barcelona is published. This was one of the first news sheets in Europe and it would continue being published until the 1990s.
1839 - Figueres: The Col·legi d’Humanitats (currently IES Ramon Muntaner) opens. This was the first public non-religious school in Spain.


1909 - Barcelona: Miquel Batllori i Munné, Catalan historian and Jesuit.
1912 - Palma, Mallorca: Aurora Picornell Femenies, Mallorcan communist leader, who was murdered by Francoists (died 1937).


1572 - Rome: Francesc de Borja, Duke of Gandia (1542-1543), baron and first marquis of Llombai, viceroy of Catalunya (1539-1543).

1847 - Madrid: Rafael Esteve i Vilella, Valencian engraver.

1961 - Barcelona: Rosa Sensat i Vilà, Catalan teacher and pedagogue (born 1873)

1968 - Figueres (Alt Empordà): Carles Fages de Climent, poet, playwright, literary and art critic (n. 1902).
