1642 - As part of the Thirty Years War, on an international level, and The Reapers' War or Guerra dels Segadors, in Catalonia, in Lleida the Battle of les Forques French troops with the support of Catalan regiments beat Castilian forces.

- Barcelona: The first Festa del Llibre i Dia del Llibre or Book Festival and Book Day was held. It was promoted by publisher Vicent Clavel and the Cambra del Llibre de Barcelona and would later change the day to April 23rd so it was the prototype for the current Diada de Sant Jordi.


1880 - Barcelona: Jaume Pahissa i Jo, Catalan composer and conductor.
1887 - Sant Feliu de Guíxols: Gaziel, pseudonym of Agustí Calvet i Pascual, Catalan writer and journalist.
1907 - Barcelona: Carles Parès i Guillèn, Catalan surgeon.


1918 - València: Santiago Segura i Burguès, art dealer and promotor.
2011 - Borriana, Plana Alta: Enric Monsonís Domingo Valencian liberal politician, second President of the Government (preautonomic) of the País Valencià (1979-1982) (born 1931).

Festivals and Commemorations

October 7th is the Saints' Day of La Mare de Déu del Roser, who is one of the many Madonna and child figures and acts as an excuse for Festa Majors around Catalonia.
