Saints Day of Sant Gil or Saint Giles the Hermit
September 1st is the Saints Day of Sant Gil or Saint Giles, which as the weather is still good, is an excuse for Festa Majors around Catalonia and the Catalan-speaking countries.
Sant Gil was a Greek hermit and abbot, who was born in Athens around 640 and died in Sent Gile in Provence around 720.
In Catalonia, he is the patron saint of shepherds and as the picture below shows is normally represented with a female deer, an arrow and a set of bagpipes.
