Saints' Day of Sant Sadurní

November 29th

November 29th is the Saints Day of Sant Sadurní, which despite the cold weather, is an excuse for Festa Majors in Catalonia, particularly in the Province of Barcelona.

Sant Sadurní, who is known as Sant Serni in the Pyrenees, Saturninus in Latin, and Sarnin in Occitan, was the first bishop of Toulouse and died there are 257 AD.

His life is based on the fifth century Passion Saturnini and he was probably one of the Seven Apostles of Gaul, who were sent from Rome by Pope Fabian in the early third century.

Sant Sadurní is normally depicted in bishop's clothes often with a bull at his feet and he is patron saint of Toulouse and Pamplona.

In Catalonia, he is patron saint of Sant Sadurní d'Osormort, Montornès del Vallès, La Roca del Vallès and most famously of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, the self-styled capital of cava.
