1213 - Muret, Llenguadoc, Occitània - the Battle of Muret between the Catalano-Occitan troops led by Pere the Catholic and the French crusaders led by Simon de Montfort.

1229 - Calvià, Mallorca - the Catalan troops led by Jaume I beat the Saracens at the Battle of Portopí on the hill of Sa Batalla. This is the start of the Conquest of Mallorca.

Births

1843 - Xàtiva, Costera - Matilde Ridocci i Garcia, Valencian teacher and writer (died 1922).

1846 - Les Cabanyes, Alt Penedès - Josep Torras i Bages, Catalan clergyman and writer.

Deaths

1213 - Muret, Llenguadoc, Occitània - Pere I the Catholic, Count of Barcelona, dies from sword wounds received at the Battle of Muret.

1979 - Madrid - Laly Soldevila, Catalan actress.

1984 - Tiana, Maresme - Lola Anglada, Catalan writer and illustrator.
