1918 - Sallent (el Bages): the public library opens, the second in the network of libraries opened by the Mancomunitat de Catalunya.

1964 - Barcelona: the first edition of Tele/eXpres is published, the first new privately-owned newspaper in Catalonia since 1939.

1976 - Perpignan (el Rosselló): la Bressola opens its doors. This was the first Catalan school to open in Catalunya Nord since its occupation by France in 1659.

2005 - ICANN approves the domain .cat for the Catalan cultural and linguistic community.

Births

1816 - Vic (Osona): Joaquim Salarich i Verdaguer, Catalan doctor, historian and novelist (died 1884).

1946 - Alcoi, l'Alcoià: Camilo Blanes Cortés, known as Camilo Sesto, Valencian singer.

1998 - Girona: Nil Cardoner, Girona actor.

Deaths

1957 - Buenos Aires: Antoni Estruch i Bros, Catalan historical painter, famous for the paintings Corpus de Sang and L'Onze de Setembre de 1714.
