1450 - Barcelona: Creation of the Estudi General (The University of Barcelona)

1827 - Viella (Vall d'Aran): the Conselh Generau d'Aran, which controlled the destiny of the valley from the 13th century onwards, met for the last time before the modern period.

1808 - Barcelona: The Peninsular War, known as the Guerra del francès in Catalan: The Blockade of Barcelona began in an attempt to recover the city from Spanish troops . It ended in a French victory on December 17th.

1843 - Barcelona: The start of the Jamància, a popular revolt against the government because of hunger and poverty.

2004 - Barcelona: as part of the Fòrum de les Cultures, the three-day Congrés de Moviments Humans i Immigració began.


1876 - Verges, Baix Empordà: Francesc Cambó, Catalan politician.

1980 - Montgat, El Maresme: Cristina Ares Cardete, Catalan politician.


2004 - Barcelona: Joan Oró, Catalan biochemist.
