1339 - Alborán Sea, facing Ceuta: a Catalan fleet led by Gilabert de Cruïlles defeated the Moroccan fleet.

1891 - Barcelona: Founding of the Orfeó Català by Lluís Millet and Amadeu Vives.


1644 - Algemesí, Ribera Alta: Joan Baptista Cabanilles, organist and composer of Baroque music (died 1712).

1937 - Sant Mateu (Baix Maestrat): Sergio Aragonés Domenech, Valencian and Mexican comic artist.

1975 - Barcelona: Oriol Ripol Fortuny, international rugby player.


1885 - Sant Martí de Provençals (Barcelona): Narcís Monturiol i Estarriol, Catalan inventor, intellectual and politician, inventor of the first manned submarine powered by a combustion engine (born 1819).

1951 - Barcelona: Manuel Folguera i Duran, Catalan engineer and politician.
