The organisers of Shopping Night Barcelona hope to increase the number of visitors to the 4th Edition to 50,000 - 10,000 people more than last year's event.
This year's Shopping Night is taking place between 8 pm and 1 am on Thursday 28 November along Passeig de Gràcia and the adjoining streets and the theme revolves around composers Wagner and Verdi to commemorate the bicentenary of their births.
One of the reasons why the organisers are so confident about increasing the number of shoppers is because the area of the event has been extended to include neighbouring streets and because the the local hotels are actively participating Shopping Night amongst their guests.
With an investment €170,000, the budget is slightly higher than last year but shops and businesses along the famous avenue are expecting to reap bigger rewards.
The slogan for the 2014 event is 'Viva Verdi! Es lebe Wagner!' and not only includes shops and hotels but also TSNB spaces that will feature culture, gastronomy and fashion and have been christened Valhalla, Valquiria, Trovatore, Rigoletto and Espacio Ópera.
You'll only be able to enter the Espacio Valhalla in the gardens of Palau Robert with VIP Pass and the space will recreate the Nordic sagas that are the setting for Wagner's The Ring.
The rest of the spaces will be open to the general public and it is worth mentioning La Valquiria, which will feature women on horseback acting out Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries whist dressed by top designers Modafad.
In L'Òpera, you will be treated to an audiovisual show courtesy of the Liceu Opera House, featuring ten of Wagner and Verdi's choral works, ten dances and ten exclusive shoe and dress designs.
After the Shopping Night Barcelona, the clothes and shoes will be auctioned and the proceeds will go to local charities, such as the Casal del Raval, the Marató de TV3 and Fundación Codespa.
This year around 90 establishments are expected to take part but much to the irritation of the organisers, major exclusive brands such as Chanel and Loewe refuse to participate in what they consider an event directed towards the masses.
Some of the firms taking part include Santa Eulalia, Swarosvski, Guess, Benetton, Lupo, Mango, Bimba&Lola, Massimo Dutti, Caramelo, Calzedonia, Timberland, Lacoste, Zara, Uterque, Tous, Scalpers, Lacoste, Javier Simorra, Geox, Liu Jo, Styling Alta Costura and Punto Blanco.
Twelve luxury hotels will be opening their doors, including Mandarin Oriental, Condes de Barcelona, Majestic, Claris, Avenida Palace , Hotel Omm and Gallery as well as eleven top-notch restaurants, such as El Tragaluz, El Japonés, El principal, Sushi Shop and el Café de la Pedrera, amongst others.
Obviously, Shopping Night Barcelona is strategically positioned to take advantage of the run up to Christmas but the aim is also to consolidate Passeig de Gràcia's position as Spain's most attractive shopping street amongst foreign tourists so whether you live in Barcelona or are here on holiday, Shopping Night Barcelona on Thurday 28th November is an event that definitely should not be missed.
