Located in the traditional theatre area on Avinguda del Paral.lel on the border between El Raval and Poble Sec, the Teatre Apolo has been a classic Barcelona venue for well over a century.
The Apolo began putting on musical shows in 1901 and when the original makeshift structure was knocked down in a storm, a permanent structure was built, which opened in 1904.
Throughout most of the Apolo's history it has been a variety theatre, concentrating on a combination of comedies, reviews, zarzuelas and musicals and this tradition continues to this day.
The current theatre was renovated in 1993 and has a capacity for 1,000 spectators.
The theatre shouldn't be confused with the nearby Sala Apolo, which is mainly a venue for live music.
