The Turó de la Peira neighbourhood lies around the foot of a small hill of the same name and branches off to your right after Virrei Amat metro station as you walk up Passeig Fabra i Puig.
The top of the turó or hill is the oldest park in Nou Barris, which dates from 1936 and was once part of the old Can Peguera glue factory.
The park is a really lovely pine forest with a mirador and a cross on its peak and provides a wonderful escape from the estates around it.
These jerry-built blocks of flats were put up in the early 1960s and just like the rest of Nou Barris were unplanned and lacking in facilities and services.
It wasn't until 1990 when a building collapsed due to aluminosis that improvements began to be made in the neighbourhood.
The area with most life is the first section of Carrer Sant Iscle just
off Passeig Fabra i Puig where the Mercat de la Mercè acts as a focus
for the neighbourhood.
